Dorothy Helen Palazzo, 88, of Concord, NC, passed away unexpectedly at Atrium Hospital in Concord on Monday, October 3, 2022.
Dorothy was born January 6, 1934 in Buffalo, NY, to the late Vincent and Helen Skulski.
She was also preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Joseph Palazzo; daughter, Anita Sharkey; great-grandson, Louis Sharkey III; brother, Robert (late Patricia) Matyjaszek; and brother, Jerome ( Deborah) Skulski.
Survivors include daughter, Pamela Palazzo (late Juan Tynes); daughter, Camille Palazzo; daughter, Angela Ferreire and husband, Toney; son-in-law, Louis Sharkey, Sr.; grandchildren, Louis Jr. (Monica); Vincent and Dakota Sharkey; Keesha (Andres Cardenas) and Daryl Tynes; Dominic and Dalton Ferreire; great-grandchildren, Tylor, Madeline, and Cruz Sharkey; brother, Norman (Diane) Skulski; sister, Margaret (late Joseph) Verrastro; and sister, Judy (late Henry) Nowak.
Dorothy studied nursing in Illinois and became a CNA. She began her marriage in South Dakota while her husband served in the Air Force. Following his discharge, they lived on Long Island, NY, and then relocated their family to Rochester, NY. While raising her children, she worked in the food service of the student union at Nazareth College for 11 years. She then fulfilled her dream of opening her own restaurant called The Dugout. She was a fan of baseball and active with the Rochester Red Wings Booster Club. In 1988, she retired to St. Petersburg, FL, where she lived for 20 years, before relocating to Concord in 2008. Dorothy loved spending time with her family and beloved pets. She enjoyed cooking and baking. Her hobbies included gardening, arts & crafts, and fitness.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 5, 2022 from 1pm-1:45 pm at Hartsell Funeral Home. A celebration of Dorothy's life will follow at 2pm in the funeral home chapel, officiated by Rev. Tim Newton.
