Dorothy Simmons

Dorothy Sullivan Simmons, 92, of Concord, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at Transitional Health Services of Kannapolis.

Mrs. Simmons was born December 9, 1926 in Guilford County to the late Hollon Alton Sullivan and the late Eula Hodgin Sullivan. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Charles Sullivan and Larry Sullivan; and sister, Doris Sullivan; son-in-law, Kenneth Hansing.

Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of 76 years, William Anderson Simmons in Concord, NC, her two daughters, Vicky Simmons Hansing of Hoschton, Georgia, and Susan Simmons Whistler (husband William Whistler) of Dubai, UAE. She is also survived by her grandchildren Scott W. Pitman (wife Beth) of Braselton, Georgia, Todd S. Pitman (wife Sihin) of Bangkok, Thailand, Katy W. Whistler of Medford, MA, Emmy E. Whistler of Brattleboro, VT. Her great-grandchildren; Will and Emma Pitman, and Gideon and Solomon Pitman. Her siblings; Margaret Sullivan Laughlin (husband, Colin) of Belews Creek, NC, Howard Sullivan (wife, Jackie) of Greensboro, NC, Jim Simmons and Jean Freeman of Charlotte, NC, Tom Simmons (wife Betty) of Rocky Mount, VA, Shirley Simmons of Moorseville, NC and Nancy Lee Simmons of Greensboro, NC.  Her nieces and nephews; Mike Simmons, Gale Simmons Howard, Rick Simmons, Jeff Simmons, Robin Simmons McRae, Phillip Simmons,  Rhonda Carrico and Michelle Sullivan Martin.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm prior to the memorial service in Celebration of her life at 2:00 pm, Saturday, September 14, 2019 in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel.

A gathering will be held from 3-5 pm at the clubhouse of the Oakleaf Condominiums (651 Camrose Circle, Concord, NC 25028) following the memorial.
