Dorothy Frances Willis, 91, of Concord, passed away July 1, 2021 at home surrounded by her loving family. Her passing brings to a close a long life of service and kindness to others.
She was born in Belmont, NC on July 22, 1929 and shared her family years with her three sisters. She married Russell Willis, a young minister, in 1950. As a pastor’s wife, she shared in his ministry for almost seventy years serving churches in Texas, Mississippi, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. Her quiet and gentle spirit caused her to be loved everywhere she lived.
Dorothy served as a Church Secretary for many years which she thoroughly enjoyed. She also donated significant time at the Sharing House of the Cabarrus Baptist Association, North Carolina Baptist Campers on Missions, and numerous humanitarian relief efforts.
She was an active member of Pitts Baptist Church.
Dorothy is survived by Dr. Russell Willis, her loving husband of seventy-one years; three sons, Steve of Seneca, SC, Mark of Raleigh, NC, and Byron of Concord, NC, four Grandchildren, four Great Grandchildren, and her sister, Lucille Bell of Greensboro, NC.
She was preceded in death by her father, William Fred Hollifield, mother, Annie Sue Hollifield, and two sisters, Geraldine Whitley and Pauline Reid.
A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on July 7th at Pitts Baptist Church, 140 Pitts School Road, NW. A brief reception will follow immediately after the service in the fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice of Cabarrus County or Pitts Baptist Church, Concord, NC.
