Douglas Jay Crayton, 68 of Stanfield, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 15, 2013 at his home with his family by his side. After a six and a half year battle with cancer, he has gone Home to be with His Lord. Mr. Crayton was born on December 23, 1944 in Stanly County to the late Homer Eli Crayton and Vasti McClester Crayton. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Tony Ray Crayton. Mr. Crayton loved his family and his community. He served for many years as a volunteer fireman for Rocky River VFD. Mr. Crayton was a technicion for Phillip Morris and a member of Mission Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home in Midland on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 from 6 until 8 pm. The funeral service will be held at Mission Baptist Church 12444 Mission Church Road Locust on Wednesday, July 17th at 10 am following a 30 min. state, officiated by Dr. Ronny Russell and Rev. Jeremy Hyde. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. At other times the family will meet at the home. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Love Crayton of the home; daughters, Crystal Wages and husband Kenneth of Stanfield, and Leesa Fuller and husband Patrick also of Stanfield; brother, Tim Crayton; sisters, Faye Huneycutt, Betty Howell, Judy Thompson, Renee Love, and Frances Crayton; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
