Douglas Deaton

Douglas Eugene Deaton, 67, of Midland, native of Mecklenburg County, passed away Sunday, December 5, 2021 at Carolinas Medical Center Main in Charlotte.

He was a kind and loving partner to his spouse, Darlene, and an amazing father to his sons Ronnie, Doug and Gregory. He was a man of few words, but of great love, who valued his family and siblings more than life itself. He was always working around the house and in the yard saying, "Mom (Darlene), you can't bring anymore plants home," knowing he'd gladly plant them all. He was a hard worker that inspired those around him to do the same. He displayed absolute strength and bravery until God called him home and no matter what, he met each day with a smile on his face.

Douglas was born August 29, 1954 in North Carolina to the late Floyd Richard Deaton and the late Wilma Cooper Deaton.
He was also preceded in death by son, Ronnie Lee Hedgecoe; brothers, Richard Deaton, Cecil Deaton, Michael Deaton, and Kenneth Deaton; and sisters, Betty Austin, Brenda Wilson, Deborah Deaton, and Joann Evans.

Survivors include wife, Karen Darlene Criswell Deaton of Midland, NC; children, Douglas Deaton (Mandy) of Indian Trail, NC and Gregory Deaton (Heather) of Midland, NC; grandchildren, Alex Hedgecoe (Stephenie), Jacob Hedgecoe, Joseph Hedgecoe, Lily Deaton, Ella Deaton, Ronnie Deaton, and Blakelyn Deaton; great-grandchildren, Jackson Hedgecoe and Luke Hedgecoe; brothers, Steve Deaton, Phil Deaton, Tommy Deaton, and Donald Deaton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm - 2:45 pm, Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The funeral service will follow on Saturday at 3:00 pm at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland.
