Douglas Thomas

Douglas Thomas, 74, of Oakboro, passed away Monday, March 29, 2021 at his home.

Doug was born November 29, 1946 in North Carolina to the late Roy Lee Thomas and the late Virginia Hill Thomas.
He was also preceded in death by his brother Richard Thomas.

Doug was a retired truck driver of 30 years. He loved to go fishing, play softball, and shoot skeet with his buddies. He was also an avid hunter, and enjoyed making deer jerky, and smoking BBQ. He loved his Sunday afternoon setback games with his family. His grand babies and great grand babies were his pride and joy! Loving on them lifted his spirits and gave him strength on many days. He was also quite the jokester. And as Poppie would say... "watch out for them varmints!'

The family will have a funeral service Thursday, April 1, 2021 at 3:30pm with a 30 minute lie in state prior to service at Rocky Mount Baptist Church, 4167 Rocky Mt Church Rd, Polkton, NC 28135 officiated by Pastor Tony Thomas. Burial will follow at the Rocky Mount Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include wife, Irene Thomas of Oakboro, NC, daughters, Anita (Scotty) Alexander, Marsha (Mike) Weeks, and Terri (Ben) Helms; brothers David Thomas, and Steven Thomas; sister in law, Nellie Thomas; grandchildren, Brett Morton, Jordan Morton, John Alexander, Luke Alexander, and Rachel Huneycutt; great-grandchildren, Kynleigh Alexander, Adlee Morton, Maezy Morton, and Ella Alexander.

A special thank you to the doctors and staff at Oakboro Medical Center, Healthy at Home, and new buddies at Levine Cancer Center in Albemarle.
