Dr. Clyde Henry Robertson, Jr., 83, of Richfield died on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at Stanly Regional Medical Center. The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle on Friday, February 1, 2013 from 6 pm to 8 pm. The funeral will be held at Richfield Baptist Church in Richfield on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 11 am with the Rev. Brian Miller officiating. A graveside service will follow at Richfield Cemetery. Clyde was born August 8, 1929 in Heath Springs, SC to the late Clyde Henry Robertson, Sr. and Mary Gleaton Robertson. Clyde is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty Caskey Robertson, of the home; two daughters, Rosalind Lowe and husband, Tom, of Richfield, and Lisa Yeomans and husband, Dick, of Greensboro; five grandchildren, Lindsey and Bryan Lowe, Ben, David, and Sean Yeomans; one great granddaughter, London Gray; one sister, Barbara Dekle, and husband, Willie, of Columbia, SC. He also had many honorary grandchildren: Beth, Matt, Jeff, Jake, Kiley, and Ashley. Clyde graduated from Heath Springs High School in 1946. He earned his bachelor's degree from Wofford College in 1950. He earned his master’s and doctoral degrees from Duke University in 1952 and 1955, respectively. Dr. Robertson began his career at Pfeiffer in 1956 after teaching high school biology in Shalotte, NC for one year. He taught biology and zoology for the School of Natural Sciences until his retirement in 1989. Over the course of his tenure at Pfeiffer, he served as chairman of the division of natural sciences, head of the biology department, chairman of the athletic policies committee, building supervisor for Harris Science Building and faculty advisor to the Baptist Student Union. In addition, Clyde supported the community as a member of the Pfeiffer-North Stanly Water Association Board, Stanly County Planning Board and Lakes Area Advisory Committee, member of the Misenheimer Lions Club, and assisted in the development of Richfield Park. He was an active member of Richfield Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School teacher and Deacon.
