Dwight James Bruce, Jr., age 77, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, August 4, 2017. Jim believed in salvation through faith in Jesus Christ, and taught his family the importance of a relationship with Jesus Christ.

Mr. Bruce was born in Savannah, GA on February 26, 1940 to the late Dwight James. and Mary Esther (Roberts) Bruce, Sr. He had two siblings, Lynn (deceased) and Richard. Jim attended grade school in Savannah and the Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, GA. He earned his undergraduate degree from Armstrong State College, and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Georgia.

Jim was a patriot, serving as a Forward Observer in the Army in Korea. After his honorable discharge, he became a lifelong entrepreneur starting his career in the insurance business. He later helped form several fluid power companies as well as Bruce Supply Company, Inc. and the Concord Vacuum Center. He thrived on creating business ideas and enjoyed the interpersonal side of business.

To those who knew him well, he is best remembered as someone who loved unconditionally, was compassionate, and made friends easily.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years, Toni Smith Bruce, as well as Toni’s children, Crystal, Natalie and Jay, their spouses Brian, Rick and Kim, as well as their children, Stephanie, Sandy, DeAnthony, Cameron, Easton, Carter, Terra and a great-grandchild, Alexis. He is also survived by Stephen and Michael, the children from his first marriage to Kay Greenway Bruce, as well as their wives Stacey and Jenessa, and their children Delaney, James, Jr. and Jacqueline.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Monday, August 14, 2017 at Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel in Concord, NC, with Rev. John D. Harrill of Hickory Grove Baptist Church, Charlotte, NC officiating; with burial to follow at 1 p.m. at Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC.

Flowers may be sent to his residence at 46 Paddington Drive, Concord, NC 28025 or in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Samaritan’s Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.

Jim will be forever missed by his loving and devoted family and many friends. May God grant him eternal rest.
