Earl Sidney Hagans, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away on May 27, 2014 at CMC-Main in Charlotte. He was born February 10, 1925 in Albemarle to the late Walter Lewis Hagans and the late Julia Earls Hagans. A resident of Carriage Club- Providence in Charlotte for the past year; he lived in Leland, NC for eight years. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM, Thursday, May 29, 2014 in the Church Parlor at First Baptist Church of Albemarle. The funeral service officiated by Rev. Dan Freeman will be at 3:00 PM on Thursday at First Baptist Church of Albemarle. Burial will follow at the Fairview Memorial Park at 1425 East Main Street, Albemarle. Full military rites will be conducted by the Stanly County DAV Chapter #12 and masonic rites by the Albemarle Lodge #703. His surviving family includes his wife of 65 years, Hazel Almond Morton Hagans, daughter Delores Morton Eicher (Keith) of Cornelius, NC and son Sidney Allen Hagans (Judith) of Hickory, NC, grandchildren Michael L. Wolfe, Jr. (Ashley) of Huntersville, NC, and Patricia Jean Krause (Greg) of Fort Mill, SC, and T J Carter of Hickory. His seven great-grandchildren (Madison, Caroline, and Jackson Wolfe; Justin, Lisa, Nicole and Johanna Krause; and Jaden Carter) all called him “Punk.†He is also survived by his sister, Betty Paige (Boyd) of Albemarle and was preceded in death by his brother, Walter L. Hagans, Jr., and two sisters, Elizabeth Shirley and Linda Knotts. Mr. Hagans graduated from Albemarle High School and Stanly Community College. He served in the 88th Infantry Division of the 5th Army during the Italian Campaign of WWII. He received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, European Theater, Good Conduct, and Expert Rifleman Medals. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was employed in Albemarle for 27 years as the Maintenance Supervisor by Ruddick Corporation and served as Purchasing Manager for Fruit of the Loom for 17 years. A talented singer, he sang professionally with the Carolina Harmoneers for 12 years and with the Oasis Chanters for 38 years. He was an active member of his church choirs. He was a member of the Albemarle Optimist Club for 42 years and served as President and Lt. Governor. He was a life member of Optimist International. He also was a Master Mason in Albemarle Lodge 703, served in all stations and was Master in 1967. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, Shriners, and the Jesters. He was awarded the KCCH in 1995. A man of great faith, he served in various roles in his churches. He was a former member of First Baptist Church in Albemarle where he served as a Deacon, teacher and Sunday School Director. He joined First Baptist Wilmington upon moving to the area in 2006 and became an active member of the Wells Class.
