Earnest "Earnie" Carroll Hartsell, 75, of Concord, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at Atrium Health Cabarrus in Concord.
Earnie was born May 11, 1945 in Midland, North Carolina to the late Michael Alexander Hartsell and the late Bonnie Rowell Hartsell. He graduated from Harrisburg High School in 1963, where he met the love of his life, Jane Cheek. They were married in 1965 and moved to Pembrook, Kentucky while Earnie served in the Army at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. After his active duty in the Army was complete, they moved back to Concord, NC where they began their family. Earnie was an active member of McGill Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and Youth leader. He was very active in mission work locally, nationally and abroad.
Earnie worked as an accountant and retired from IBM. In addition to being a loving husband, devoted father and the best PawPaw to his grandchildren, his interests included golf, baseball, and college basketball, especially UNC basketball. However, his favorite sports were ones his daughters and grandchildren were playing or interested in and he always attended their games. He also enjoyed trips to the beach with family and friends.
Earnie was blessed with the gift of gab and never met a stranger. He was genuinely interested in each and every person he knew and was loved by many.
He was preceded in death by 5 brothers, Boyce Hartsell, Gary Hartsell, JayLee Hartsell, Lance Hartsell and Ken Hartsell, and 3 sisters, Juanita Huneycutt, Cornelia Alexander and Coleen McEachern.
Earnie is survived by his wife Jane of 55 years; sister Betty Dennis and husband, Charlie Dennis of Concord, NC; Daughter, Amanda Hartsell and Rich Ferreira of Ocean Isle Beach, NC; Daughter, Bonnie Clay and husband Tim Clay of Concord, NC and grandchildren, Rebecca Clay and Malcolm Clay. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 13, 2021 at McGill Baptist Church, 5300 Poplar Tent Road in Concord. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm in the Sanctuary and officiated by Dr. Steven Ayers. The burial will follow at the Carolina Memorial Park Kannapolis at Hwy. 29N at I85, Exit 58, Concord.
