Edd James Hartsell, 78, of Hwy. 601, Midland, passed away January 16, 2010, at Carolinas Medical Center NorthEast, Concord, NC. Mr. Hartsell was born March 10, 1931, in Union County, to the late James Thomas and Mary Frances Dorton Hartsell. Five brothers and two sisters also preceded him in death. He was a truck driver for Lance, Inc. for 37 years, and a member of Mill Grove Methodist Church, Midland. Edd served in the U. S. Army. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, who loved nothing more than his family and his pets. He was an avid sportsman, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf, as well as Atlanta Braves Baseball. The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Thomas Steffens, Dr. Scott Lankford, and all of the dedicated caregivers at CMC-NorthEast and Cabarrus County EMS who assisted with Dad’s care. Survivors include his wife, JoAnn L. Hartsell of the home; son, Edd Hartsell, Jr., and wife, Ginia of Midland; daughter, Cathy Jo Long and husband, Rick of Stanfield; grandchildren Brett, Rebecca, and John Hartsell and Garrett and Eva Marie Long; sisters Lela H. McManus of Monroe and Helen H. Dorton of Midland. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 19, 6:00 – 8:00, at Hartsell Funeral Home, Midland. The family will be at the home at other times. The funeral service will be Wednesday, at 1:00, Mill Grove United Methodist Church, 13659 Hwy. 601 South, Midland, officiated by Rev. Arvil Rushing and Rev. Mark Clontz. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military rites will be presented by Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard. Memorials may be sent to Mill Grove Methodist Church, P. O.
