Edgar Charles Hatley, age 92, of 12329 Hazard Rd., Oakboro died at Britthaven of the Piedmont on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009. He was the son of the late Marshall Alton Hatley and Lucy Arabelle Smith Hatley. He is also preceded in death by his sisters Lizzie and Inez Hatley, brothers James, Fred and Marcus Hatley and one grandson. He is survived by his wife Auta Mae Tarlton Hatley, son Charles Hatley and wife Jewell of Oakboro, daughter Bobbie Kay Galloway and husband Cecil of Mt. Holly, daughter Ruth Elizabeth Troutman of Albemarle, son James Thomas Hatley of Albemarle, son Edgar David Hatley and wife Jane of Oakboro, sisters Sally Thompson, Bertie Hatley, and Betty Davis all of Oakboro and sister Frances Pope and husband Larry of Holden Beach. She is also survived by her brother Melvin Hatley, 12 grandchildren, 1 step-granddaughter, 17 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. A visitation was held on Sunday, Nov. 29 from 6 - 8 at Hartsell Funeral Home - Albemarle. A service will be held Monday, Nov. 30 at 2:00 PM at Barbee's Grove Baptist Church in Oakboro, where he was a member. Revs Terry Burris, Lowell Brown, and Bill Thompson are officiating. The family meeting place will be at Edgar's home in Oakboro. He was a retired carpenter and contractor with home building. He enjoyed wood work and in retirement, spent hours in his shop. He also enjoyed his garden.
