Edith Joyce "Joy" Leonard Beck, 95 years of age, of Badin, NC passed away Sunday, November 27, 2016 in Winston Salem, NC..

Joy was born November 5, 1921 in Stanly County to the late Joseph H. and Julia Austin Leonard. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Donald "Don" Avery Beck.

Joy graduated from Badin High School and attended Catawba College in Salisbury, NC. She was an active Member of the Badin Presbyterian Church, held various offices in The Women of the Church and adult Sunday school class. She also taught dancing and directed the majorette drum corp from Badin School. Her interests were tennis, swimming, basketball, and golf.

Don and Joy enjoyed traveling during their retirement years. Haiti and Vermont ( where they were married in 1943) were among some of the special places they visited. However, their most enjoyable times were spent at the coast a couple of months a year, where they loved having family and friends spend special times with them.

Surviving are three daughters; Jo Anne Stanley and husband Allen "Skip" Stanley of Pfafftown, NC, Sherry Beck Blalock and husband Tim of Lawrenceville, GA, and Jan Beck Everton of Pfafftown, NC; Six grandchildren; Scott Stanley (Jamie), Chad Blalock (Mandi), Erika McAllister (Tom), Brandi Goodbar (Kyle), Graham Morris (Susan), and Taylor Morris (Lacie); also nine great grandchildren, Avery and Banks Stanley, Erin and Luke McAllister, Brewer, Findley Grace, and Harris Blalock, Kolton and Brody Goodbar, Ryan, Austin, and Collin Morris, also surviving is her sister-in-law, Phyllis Beck Thompson of Charlotte, NC.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 11 am in the Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Park.

The family asks in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to Badin Presbyterian Church, PO Box 776, Badin, NC 28009, The Badin Historic Museum, or a hospice facility of your choice.

Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is serving the Beck family.
