Edna Barbee Gibson

Edna Barbee Gibson, 89, passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at Spring Arbor Assisted Living in Albemarle, NC.

Edna was born in Albemarle on September 12, 1934, to Matthew and Annie Barbee. In addition to her parents, she is pre-deceased by her husband, J.C. Gibson, son, Jeffrey Gibson and siblings: Estelle Doyon, Pauline Mills, Alleen Sides, J.D. (Buck) Barbee, Grace Hatley and Jessie Lowder.

She is survived by her son, Tony and grandchildren, Jarrod and wife Emily of Belmont, NC and Andrea Gibson and fiancée John Finley of Mount Holly, NC, as well as great grandchildren, Jacob Gibson, Violet Gibson and Willow Finley. Her remaining siblings are Jimmy and wife Pearl Barbee and Annie (Boots) and husband Edd Lambert.

Edna was a committed Christian where she sang in the choir and served faithfully at Lakeview Baptist Church. She was very talented and made beautiful quilts, pottery and enjoyed gardening, reading and music. Her love for her family was celebrated in their commitment to each other, sharing meals with long visits around the supper table and an abundance of love and laughter.

Edna is also survived by her niece, Rita Wood who provided additional care and support throughout her last few years as well as her niece, Brenda Callicutt.

Family will receive friends on Sunday, February 11, 2024 from 1:30 - 2:15 pm at Lakeview Baptist Church in Albemarle.  A service will follow at 2:30 pm at Lakeview Baptist Church, 32496 Pennington Rd. Reverend Tab Whitley will be officiating. Burial will follow at Stanly Gardens of Memory.
