Edward Lake Barrett, 83, of Concord, passed away Friday, August 27, 2021 at NC State Veterans Home in Salisbury.

Eddie was born January 29, 1938 in Richmond, VA, to the late Gerald Walter Barrett and the late Eleanor Haney Jones Barrett.  He was also preceded in death by daughter, Wendy Starr Flagg; and brothers, Gerald W. Barrett, Jr., Robert D. Barrett and Thomas K. Barrett.

Eddie grew up on a farm on the James River in Richmond, VA, where he developed a love for animals.  He always enjoyed having pets, especially dogs.  He was a devout Catholic.  Eddie was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving on the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga as a chaplain's assistant and in the mail room.  He owned Town & Country Lawn Service in Richmond, VA, for more than 40 years.  Eddie was always an athlete, having played football and baseball in high school.  He later picked up tennis, winning many tournaments, and also joined the Masters Swim Team.  He absolutely loved to garden and loved to cook.  Eddie also enjoyed traveling with Suzy, especially to Bermuda, Germany, England, Alaska, and Ireland.  Eddie and Suzy established lifelong friendships that they've maintained for over 50 years.  He and Suzy enjoyed retirement at the Outer Banks, where he enjoyed playing golf and served as a marshal for Nags Head Links Golf Course for several years.  Most of all, Eddie was a loving husband, father, brother and grandpa.  He will greatly missed and forever loved.

Survivors include beloved wife of 59 years, Ruth Anne "Suzy" Bein Barrett of Concord; daughter, Debra Mann and husband, Donald, of Kannapolis; daughter, Sherri Brandner and husband, Michael of Concord; sister, Elaine Porter; grandchildren, Sean, Jeff, Brandon, John, Ashlyn, and Chase; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Naela, Luke and Barrett; and several nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service will be held at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, officiated by Father Jerome Chavarria.  Eddie will be laid to rest during a private committal service with military honors at Salisbury National Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to St. James the Greater Catholic Church or Coltrane LIFE Center of Concord.
