Edward Lee Black, Sr, age 83 of Locust,NC., passed away at Stanly Regional Medical Center on May 8, 2010. He was born in Charlotte, NC on December 11, 1926 to the late Zeb Lee Black and Lillian Ruth Miller Black. He graduated from Oakhurst High School in Charlotte and enlisted in the US Navy from high school and served on a mine sweeper in the Pacific during WWII receiving an honorable discharge. After the war he went into the house building business with his father. In 1947 he went to work with City Coach Bus Service. He really enjoyed driving and meeting people. He was named employee of the month in 1983 and retired from CATS in 1992 after 45 years. Mr. Black is a member Amity Presbyterian Church and was a 32nd degree Mason. His hobbies included woodworking, puzzles, painting and fishing. He was married to the late Marjorie Hunnicut Black for 60 years and also preceded in death by his son, Daniel Eugene Black. Surviving family members are daughter, Linda Riggins and husband Tom of Wilmington, NC; son, Edward L. Black, Jr. and wife Mary of Garden City, SC, seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. There will be a small family service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Melanoma International Foundation, 250 Mapleflower Road, Glenmoore, PA 19343 or the American Cancer Society.
