Edward Toombs Howell, Jr., 74, of Denton, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2022.
Ed was born March 9, 1948 in Concord to the late Edward Toombs Howell, Sr. and the late Dessie Viola Rhinehardt Howell. Ed was also preceded in death by his sister, Thelma Crayton.
Ed was a 1967 graduate of Central Cabarrus High School. He joined the US Marine Corp after graduation and proudly served his country during the Vietnam war. Ed was a Carpenter by trade. He also loved to play golf. He never missed a chance to support his granddaughters and great granddaughter in their extra curricular activities. Most of all, Ed was a loving husband, dad, brother, and grandpa. If you ever met Ed, then you know he was a jokester and didn’t miss a chance to cut up with anyone and if ever you needed a helping hand, he was there. He will be forever loved and greatly missed.
Survivors include Ed's beloved wife of 51 years, Linda Ann Helms Howell of the home; son, Michael Howell of Denton; daughter, Kelly (Kevin) Morgan of China Grove; sisters, Ella (King) Walters of Mount Pleasant and Mattie (Gary) Almond of Concord; brothers, Marshall (Missie) Howell of Pinehurst and Dale (Tammy) Howell of Concord; granddaughters, Emma Morgan and McKenzie Howell; great-grandchildren, Bailey and Luke Howell; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm - 1:45 pm, Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. The funeral service follow at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel, officiated by Rev. Harold Davis. Ed will be laid to rest with military honors at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd, Salisbury.
