Edward Hubert Simmons, 75 years of age, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2012 at Carolinas Medical Center – NorthEast in Concord. Mr. Simmons was born April 17, 1936 in Pocahontas County, West Virginia to the late Hubert Andrew Simmons and the late Laura Roxella McLoud Simmons Gum. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Albert Simmons. The Simmons family is all about family and the honor of our country back to WWI and to current sons and grandchildren. Mr. Simmons was the Commander of Post 433 Black& Phillips American Legion for ten years. He was in transportation for 52 years, 22 years which was with Greyhound Bus Lines. Ed never met a stranger and would give his last dollar to someone in need. He loved God, family and fishing. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m., Tuesday, March 20, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The memorial service will be at 4 p.m., Wednesday at United Love Baptist Church at 11487 Flowes Store Road of Midland. Rev. Marvin Tyson will officiate. Burial will be later Cass, West Virginia. Military rites will be presented by the Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard and the American Legion Post 433. Survivors include his loving wife of 28 years, Barbara Jane Carpenter Simmons; his mother-in-law, Doris Carpenter, of Midland; his sons, SSGT Jonathan Simmons and his wife, Julie, of Texas and Timothy Simmons and his wife, Wendy, of Charlotte; his daughter, Pam Steed of Cary; his brothers, Retired Major William R. Simmons of Manessa, VA, Leonard Simmons and Clarence Simmons, both of CA; his sister, Wanda Liskey of VA; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 433 (Black & Phillips), P. O.
