Edward Fowler Sparkman was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus on October 13, 2021 at 82 years of age. Born on August 18, 1939 in California, Edward was the only child of Daniel and Ella Mae (Fowler) Sparkman.
Ed enjoyed a youth filled with family and friends, cars and church, malts and music. He played the saxophone beautifully at school, church, and in a dance band. After graduating from Santa Fe High School, he joined the Army National Guard and then married Shauna Dalton.
His career in aviation began in the 1960’s when his lifelong friend, Dick O’Harren suggested he join him and interview with Pacific Southwest Airlines. This career allowed Eddie to see the world. From buying a Porsche in Germany to snorkeling in Kauai, he enjoyed the memorable experiences only travel can bring.
He shared his love of family, music, and travel with his only child, A’Lissa, blessing her with all a daughter could ever wish for. His unconditional love for her was never in question.
His family came from Oklahoma and even though he was raised in Southern California, he always had a little bit of Southern deep in his heart. So in the 1980’s, when US Airways bought PSA, he decided to move to Charlotte. There he met the gracious Linda Love Stancil and they married in 1994 . He retired from USAir and they have lived quietly in Stanfield, North Carolina since 2006, surrounded by the loving care of Linda’s family.
Survived by his wife Linda Stancil, her children Shannon and Bryan Stancil, and grandson Dalton Stancil, his daughter A’Lissa and her husband Mark Olson who live in Salt Lake City, Utah, grandchildren Veronica, Thatcher (Elana), Taylor (James Egan) and great-granddaughter Clara who was born to Thatcher and Elana in August.
We know he will be watching over all of us from heaven now.
