Elaine Kendall

d. April 18, 2017

On Tuesday, April 18, 2017, Elaine Kendall went to be with the Lord at the age of 67. She went quietly while sleeping in her home in Concord, NC. Elaine was born in Tennessee to her parents John (deceased) and Helen Bodley. She met Barry Kendall at UC Davis while completing her bachelor’s degree in English, and they were married in 1972. Shortly thereafter, Shep, then Rachel, and finally Joshua were born, and Elaine was a devoted mother and wife. Her family grew when Shep married Elena, Rachel married Charles, and Joshua adopted Gromit. She was completely enthralled with her children, and was very proud of being a homemaker for the early years of her children’s lives. As they grew older, she returned to the business world as an executive administrative assistant, and eventually opened a small computer retail business that made over $1M in a year. She was creative, tender, and very thoughtful.

Elaine loved books. Her favorite books included Gone With the Wind, the Bible, and anything by Shakespeare. Before her children were born, she took a class where she learned to speak Middle English. She was brilliant and creative, but also silly and free spirited. She loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and fine jewelry. She didn’t care much for food in general, but loved Jimboy’s tacos (a Sacramento taco chain) and sweets of any kind. Elaine was also a devout Christian. If you needed prayer, she was the best Prayer Warrior anyone could ask for. She was very active at church, serving in various capacities over the years as a Sunday School director, an administrative assistant, and much more. She loved Jesus, and wanted everyone around her to share that passion.

Elaine was not an extravagant woman, and thus, her final wishes were for a simple and low-key funeral. A private (family only) graveside service will be held Tuesday at Gethsemane Cemetery and Memorial Gardens in Charlotte, NC. She hated getting cut flowers. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association or the charity of your choice. She was a chronic volunteer, so please honor her by donating money or your time.

Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord is serving the Kendall family.
