Eleanor Knotts

June 11, 1925 — January 16, 2016

Eleanor Winslow Brinn Knotts, 90 years of age, of Albemarle, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh.

Eleanor was born June 11, 1925 in Lee County to the late Frank Bishop Brinn and the late Ila Cotton Newell Brinn.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at Hartsell Funeral Home-Albemarle. The memorial service will be on Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at 1:00 pm at Central United Methodist Church, North Second Street, in Albemarle. Rev. Jim Yow, Rev. Harold McDonald, and Dr. Andy Jung will officiate. A private burial will held at a later date at Fairview Memorial Park.

Survivors include her loving husband of 66 years, Ernest Mack "Bear" Knotts of Albemarle; daughters, Brinn (Jeff) Smith of Albemarle and Bess (Win) Walker of Raleigh; grandchildren, Lee (Michele) Timberlake, Bill Timberlake, Ila (Robbie) Bittner, Locke Walker, Carr Walker; step grandchildren, Brian and Ben Smith, Liz Adkisson, Katie Furr; and three great step grandchildren.

Eleanor graduated from Sanford High School as salutatorian of her class, attended Greensboro College, and graduated from Duke University with a Bachelors in English. A renowned homemaker, Eleanor will long be remembered as a talented seamstress making handmade garments and creating needlework. Her hands were an instrument that made everything elegant and beautiful. A member of the Hawthorne Garden Club, she loved flower arranging and won the coveted Tri Color Ribbon at the NC State Fair. She enjoyed bridge, tennis, the beach, traveling with her husband, "Bear," but the greatest love, pride and joy of her life was spending precious time with her devoted family, especially her grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, First Baptist Church, Pfeiffer, and Duke University, Iron Dukes.

Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is serving the Knotts family.
