Elena Blackwelder

Elena Penninger Blackwelder, 82 years of age, of Concord, passed away Friday, October 9, 2015 at St. Andrew's Living Center in Concord.

Mrs. Blackwelder was born May 21, 1933 in Cabarrus County, NC to the late Roy Mack Penninger and the late Janie Lutell Lisk Penninger. She was also preceded in death by her husband Jimmy Mack Blackwelder in 2008.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 am - 11:00 am, Monday, October 12, 2015 at St. Johns Lutheran Church . The funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at St. Johns Lutheran Church officiated by Rev. Mark Ericson. Burial will take place in the church cemetery following the service. The family will be gathering at the home of June and Roy Jenkins.

Survivors include her son, Joel Mack Blackwelder of Kannapolis; her daughter June Blackwelder Jenkins and husband Roy of Concord; granddaughter Jessica Jenkins Workman and husband Jason, and granddaughter Megan Jenkins and great grandson Hayden; brothers Mack Wayne Penninger and wife Laura, Danny Ray Penninger and wife Sharon; and nephews Wayne Penninger and Josh Sides.

Elena was originally a member of St. John's Lutheran Church since her marriage to Jimmy Mack. She worked as a supervisor at North East Medical Center until her retirement in 1997. She was a loving mother and a wonderful grandmother. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
