Ella Ferguson

March 2, 1929 — June 20, 2016

Ella Pauline “Polly” Carpenter Ferguson, 87, of Midland, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2016 at her home.

Polly was born on March 2, 1929 in Cabarrus County to the late William Caldwell Hill, Sr., and Annie Mae Canupp Hill. In additional to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her first husband of 44 years, Wilbert Lee “Bill” Carpenter and her second husband of 20 years, John Ed Ferguson; two sons, Gary Lee Carpenter and Michael Eric Carpenter; five sisters and two brothers.

Polly worked in the textile industry most of her life and most recently worked with Cabarrus County Schools until her retirement. She was a current member of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Midland and was also a past member of Roberta Baptist Church, Concord.

She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and was always respected by everyone. She was an amazing mother who raised six of her own children while at the same time, helping to raise several of her own brothers and later, a number of her first husband’s siblings. Her second marriage brought her a whole new family but she always had plenty of love to share and she loved them all very dearly.

She was the eternal optimist and always found something good in everyone she met. If someone was having a bad day, her smile and uplifting words would always cheer them up. She had a green thumb and always had a beautiful yard and garden at her home. She loved spending time on Sunday afternoons with her family. She also loved birdwatching from her porch and doing crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles – always surrounded by her family. The annual fall beach trips and Christmas shopping trips with “the girls” will forever remain some of our family’s most precious memories.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 22, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Hartsell Funeral Home, Concord and funeral services will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. at Hartsell’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Roberta Baptist Church Cemetery in Concord.
