Ellen Cobb

Ellen Wingard Cobb passed away on Monday, June 13, 2022 at Concord’s Brookdale Assisted Living, just three weeks shy of her 95th birthday.

She was born in Columbia, South Carolina, on July 3, 1927, daughter of  the late E.B. Wingard and Floy Wessinger Wingard. She was also pre-deceased by her husband, the Rev. James K. Cobb, longtime Lutheran pastor in SC, NC, TN and VA. Also, pre-deceased by one sister and six brothers.

Ms. Cobb was a graduate of Columbia, SC High School and attended the Univ. of SC. In career ventures, she was an elementary teacher, a reading specialist, Admin. Assit. to an attorney, accountant for the Williamsburg-James City County, VA school district and lastly Alumni Director for Newberry College, Newberry, SC where she received special awards and recognition. She was devoted to her family, her Church, Sunday School teaching, choirs and women’s circles. She was a member of St. Martin Lutheran Church, Concord, NC.

She is survived by three children: the Rev. Dr. James G. Cobb (the Rev. Judith Cobb), Norfolk, VA, Kathryn Cobb Glenham (Tab), Cramerton, NC and Ellen Dianne Rimmer (Jerry), Raleigh, NC; also, 5 five grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren..

A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Friday, June 17, 2022 at St. Martin Lutheran Church, 5469 NC HWY 200, Concord, NC.
