Mrs. Thomas, 90, of Robinson Church Rd, passed away May 17, 2015. The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 20, 2015 from 11:00 until 1:00 pm at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord, funeral services will follow at 1 pm in Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel in Concord, with the Rev. Charles Efird and Rev. Mike Parks officiating. The body will lay in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Concord.
Mrs. Thomas was born September 19, 1924, in Harrisburg to the late William Daniel Sloop, and the late Hattie Mack Hegler Sloop. She retired from Southern Railroad after 45 years of service which began in 1943 during WWII in Taccoa, GA. She was a member of Harrisburg Presbyterian Church and a founding member of Covenant Church of Harrisburg. She was also a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Oasis Temple; Women of the Church; and Meals on Wheels.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert E. Thomas; daughter, Karen Francis Thomas Cook; brothers, William L. Sloop, Lynn M. Sloop, Dan S. Sloop; sisters, Laura M. Sloop, Sudie Chaney, Narcissus Linker, Dorothy “Dot” Harris, Elizabeth “Lib” Towell.
Survivors include her daughter, Jean Thomas Hartsell, of Concord; sister, Iris Detter of Matthews, three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
