Elva Marbry Tucker, 99 years of age, of Badin, passed away Friday, June 17, 2016 at Stanly Manor in Albemarle.

Mrs. Tucker was born August 8, 1916 in North Carolina to the late Sidney Thomas Marbry and the late Laura Maynor Marbry. She lived in Albemarle until she moved to Badin in 1948.

Her love for her family, church, friends, and neighbors was shown by her smile and caring disposition. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. After her children were grown, she was employed as a secretary for the Yadkin Brick Company and retired after 20 years of service. She was a charter member of the Second Street Presbyterian Church of Albemarle and was an active member of the Badin Presbyterian Church and later the Badin Baptist Church. She served in these churches as a choir member, Sunday School teacher, and on many church committees.

During her life, she supported her children by being a member of the board of the Badin Girl Scouts and one of the founders of the Badin Teen Club. She was a member of the Badin Home Extension Club for 25 years. Elva was the devoted and loving wife of Barrett Tucker for 70 years. They enjoyed traveling, visiting all 50 states and many foreign countries.

She was also preceded in death by her husband Barrett Burton Tucker, son-in-law Ron Culp, brothers Frank and Ralph Marbry, sisters Gertha Marbry Martin and Ann Marbry Gore.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 23 at Fairview Memorial Park at 1425 East Main Street, Albemarle.

Survivors include daughters, Saundra Culp of Charlotte and Sylvia Tucker Whelan and husband Jim of Morganton, NC; three grandchildren Karen Culp of Atlanta, GA, Kathy Culp Odom of Savannah, GA, and David Culp and wife Kim of Troutman, NC; one great grandson Tripp Odom of New York City; Nephews Don Marbry (Sue) of Chapel Hill, NC, Jim Martin of Rock Hill, SC, Fred Martin of Lakeland, FL and Nelson Kirk (Nancy) of Oakboro, NC.

The family wishes to thank her friends and staff at Stanly Manor where Elva lived happily for nine years; and our special gratitude to her caregivers Karen, JoRita, Malaysia, Mary, Rayshawn, Dawani, and Paula for the love and care they gave her.

Memorials may be made to Badin Baptist Church, 37 Falls Road, Badin, NC or individual choice.
