Elwood Lovell

Elwood Lovell, 78, of Kannapolis, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 26, 2012 at Carolinas Medical Center – NE. The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. The funeral service, officiated by Reverend Tim Newton, will be held in the Hartsell Funeral Home chapel at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Cabarrus County Honor Guard. At other times the family will meet at the home. Elwood was born on June 10, 1933, to the late Ervin Burley Lovell and the late Carrie Viola Bare Lovell. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Betty Ruth Newton Lovell and sister, Betty Gray Bower. He is survived by daughter, Susan Horton and her husband Gary, granddaughter, Leigh Ann Long and her husband, Darren; grandson, Brian Puckett and Wendi Doak; step grandchildren, Brandy and Robert Horton; great-grandchildren, Ashlyn and Kaitlyn Chewning and Dylan Long; step great-grandchildren, Elise and Sammy Bowman and Baylen Hopkins; sister, Loraine Bower and her husband, John; brother, Turrell Lovell; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Lovell loved to fish with his wife and hunt. He enjoyed spending time with his family and adored his grandchildren. He was a member of the Christian Fellowship Church in Kannapolis and served his country honorably in the Army during the Korean War.
