Rev. E. A. "Dick" Smith, 86 years of age, of Mooresville, passed away Monday, May 19, 2014 at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville. Rev. Smith was born August 14, 1927 in Cabarrus County North Carolina to late Allen Elmer and Ida Marie Harris Smith. He was also preceded in death by son, David Phillip Smith, brothers Claude Smith, Everett Smith a sister Louise Smith. The family will receive friends from 10:30 am - 12:00 pm, Friday, May 23,2014 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. The funeral service will be on Friday at 12:00 pm at Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. David Giles and Rev. Bob Bankhead. Burial will follow at the Miami Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Arlo Smith and Rev. Rick Wilson officiating. Survivors include wife of 64 years Jo Smith of Mooresville, NC, a son Steve Smith of Atlanta GA daughter, Pam Killian and husband Earl Jr. of Charlotte, NC,, grandson, Henry Killian of Nashville, TN, grandson, Joseph Killian of Damascus, VA, grandson, Earl Clifford Killian III of Concord, NC, sister, Sara Ritch of Concord, NC, brother, Dewey (Peggy Smith) Smith of Concord, NC, sister, Beulah (Walter Williamson) Williamson of Concord, NC, brother, Arlo "Buck" Smith of Gastonia, NC and a number beloved of nieces and nephews Memorials may be made to Calvary Foursquare Church, 24 Linden Ave Concord, NC 28027; Abundant Life Foursquare, 123 Foursquare Rd. Dick worked at Burlington Industries for 33 years and started his life calling as a minister around the age of 16. He pioneered his first church in 1956,Calvary Foursquare on Linden Ave in Concord and helped build the church alongside with his dad and brothers and other church members from scrap lumber that was donated by Cannon Mills. He received his honorary doctorate in 2008 from the International Church of Foursquare Gospel for 50 years of service. Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord is serving the Smith family.
