Eric Steven Malkin, 80, of Midland, passed away Friday, July 8, 2022 at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte.

Mr. Malkin was born May 28, 1942 in New Haven CT. to the late Elijah B. Malkin and the late Gladys Pollak Malkin. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Michael M. Malkin.

Eric honorably served in the US Navy Reserve as a Corpsman and Combat Medic with the USMC for 4 years. His career in retail sales, marketing and customer service spanned a 45-year period in both Connecticut and Florida. During this time, Eric owned and managed businesses in North Haven and Stamford, CT, was Sales Manager for several Circuit City store locations in FL and Al, and was the Sales Manager and Training Director for two Florida based Pontiac/GM dealerships for the 10 years prior to retiring.

Following retirement, he turned to local advocacy for his neighborhood homeowners’ association, serving as President for 3 separate terms; he was involved in a coalition of over 200 homeowners’ associations in Palm Beach County, FL for almost 20 years and served as Delegate and Board Member, as well as on several committees. In addition, he was a Volunteer in the Office of the Statewide Prosecutor for Prescription Drugs and served on the Fair Housing and Equal Employment Opportunity Board for Palm Beach County, FL for 11 years and served as Chair for the final 3 years of his tenure. During this time, he was also very involved with the local Chamber of Commerce and the Student Advisory Committee for Crystal Lakes Elementary School in Boynton Beach.

Eric’s passion and commitment to the arts and the theatre is highlighted by his many years of support and dedication to numerous museums, Palm Beach Dramaworks (where he also served on the Theatre Guild), Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, Miami City Ballet, MNM Theater, The Wick Theatre and others.

A Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at 1:00 pm in the Jeff Hartsell Memorial Chapel in Harrisburg, 12115 University City Blvd. Harrisburg, NC 28075. Live webcasting for the service will begin at 12:45 at the following link: http://video.ibm.com/channel/drygeSYpxX7 Gathering for sharing food and memories will follow at a location to be announced.

Survivors include wife, Barbara Malkin of Midland, NC, sons Stephen (Paula) Simon of Hamden, CT, David (Simon) Simon of Branford, CT, Jonathan (Karen) Malkin of Stamford, CT and Jason (Diane) Malkin of Ardsley, NY. Eric is also survived by his mother-in-law, Florene Hirsch of Concord, NC, brothers-in-law Thomas (Suzanne) Hirsch of Chesapeake, VA, John (Jacqueline) Hirsch of Tampa, FL and Kevin (Cheryl) Hirsch of Punta Gorda, FL, sisters-in-law Patricia (Joseph) Butco of Kannapolis, NC and Eileen (Kirk) Moffatt of Glen Burnie, MD, numerous grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made in Eric’s name to Palm Beach Dramaworks, 201 Clematis Street, West Palm Beach, FL 33401.
