Ernest Blackwell

Ernest Edward "Ed" Blackwell, 76 years of age, of Concord, passed away peacefully with his family and friends by his side at Tucker Hospice House on February 8, 2018 after a long 10 year battle with Alzheimer's.

Mr. Blackwell was born October 12, 1941 in Cabarrus County to the late Ernest M. Blackwell and Mary M. Blackwell. He was preceded in death by his youngest son Eric Earl Blackwell and brothers; Harold, Herman, Marvin Arnold; and sisters; Helen Norris, Ruby Riley, Bea Dancy, Annie McGaha, Margie Mainer and Margaret Hall.

Those left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Linda Newton Blackwell, which in March would have celebrated 58 years together; his son Vincent Edward and wife Ann, and granddaughter Erika Blackwell. Also, sisters, Peggy Blackwelder and Frances Hartsell; and numerous nieces and nephews; and his endearing little toy poodle, Cricket, whom he loved.

He was a member of New Hope Worship Center for 57 years. He was retired from Gulledge Building Supply after 21 years of service. He was an avid hunter and loved to cook. He also enjoyed carpentry and was self-taught in taxidermy. He was a loving husband, father and pawpaw.

Thank you to the Hospice Doctors, Nurses and Aides that cared for him. They were wonderful.

Memorials may be made to the Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis and New Hope Worship Center in Concord.

The funeral will be Friday, February 9, 2018 at New Hope Worship Center, 452 Brookwood Ave. NE, Concord. Officiating the service will be Pastor Dale Jenkins, Dr. Tommy Snipes and his brother-in-law Pastor Tim Newton. Family will be receiving friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the church and the funeral will be at 2 p.m.. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Concord.
