Ernest Jones

Ernest James Jones, 85, of Harrisburg, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2019 at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis.

Mr. Jones was born May 12, 1934 to the late Ernest James Jones, Sr. and the late Henrietta New Jones. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Margaret J. Parker

E.J. was born and reared in Lumberton, NC. After high school, E.J. completed barber school and then served two years in the army. While on assignment in Germany he was the only barber on base. He later met and married Kathleen Inman in 1962. After pursuing a B.S. degree at UNCC he was employed as a social worker in Cabarrus County for 22 years. E.J and his wife lived in Harrisburg for 49 years and reared two beautiful daughters. The two recently moved to Mt. Pleasant, NC to be closer to family. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church for 49 years where he whole-heartedly loved the Lord and his family. Those who knew him remember his dry wit, easy going personality, and kind heartedness.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 - 12:45 pm, Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at Providence Baptist Church, 5315 Highway 49 South, Harrisburg. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm, officiated by Rev. Paul Jones. Burial will conclude at the Carolina Memorial Park Harrisburg at 12025 University City Blvd., Charlotte.

Ernest is survived by his wife of 57 years, Kathleen Inman Jones; daughter, Lia Marie (Danny) Mullis of Locust, NC; daughter, Meredith Jones Sills of Leland, NC; grandchildren, Quint (Amanda) Mullis, Dan (Ashley) Mullis; Jake (Mackenzie) Mullis, Lindsey (Matthew High) Mullis, Nick Sills; great-grandchildren, Michael Stone, Rylee Mullis, Bristol Mullis, Gracie Mullis, Coleson Mullis, Axton Mullis; brother, Rev. Paul Jones of Fuquay Varina; sisters, Gail Ivey and Faye Showman of Lumberton, NC; and brother, Thomas G. Jones of North Myrtle Beach, SC.
