Esther Lula "Macene" Nance Deaton, 76, of Concord passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis. She was born on December 3, 1934 in Cabarrus County to the late Millard Clyde “MC†and Ola Nance. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Bobby Lee Deaton, Sr. in 2008 and sisters Arlene Wilson and Verlee Furr. Mrs. Deaton was a hairdresser for 15 years and also a homemaker. She was an active member of Rocky Ridge United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Methodist Women and cared for the children in the nursery for many years. Macene was also a member of The White Hall Extension Home Makers since 1955. The family meeting place will be the home. A visitation will be held at Rocky Ridge United Methodist Church 1428 Old Charlotte Road SW Concord on Saturday, October 15, 2011 from 12 until 2 PM. Funeral services will follow at 2 PM, with Rev. Tam Wensin and Rev. Lynn Cash officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis. She is survived by: daughter, Bonnie D. Shoaf and husband Roger of Concord; sons, Bobby L. Deaton, Jr. and wife Linda of Durham, and Torrey Deaton of Concord; grandchildren, Candace Honeycutt, Bobby L. Deaton III, Howard L. Shoaf, Maria Murray, Stephen Shoaf, Ame Deaton, Jackie Deaton, and Brett Deaton; ten great-grandchildren; and special friends, Velma Biggers, Linda Lowder and Ann Burr.
