Eugene Barnhardt

Eugene Clayton Barnhardt, 83 years of age, of Concord, passed away Friday, May 16, 2014, at Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast in Concord. Gene was born December 4, 1930, in Iredell County, NC, to the late Gilbert Manuel Barnhardt and the late Vinnie Ann Barnhardt. He was also preceded in death by sons, Aaron and Thad Barnhardt; brothers, Graham Barnhardt and Kenneth Barnhardt; and sister, Violet Huffman. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am - 11:00 am, Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, Charlotte, NC. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 am in the church sanctuary officiated by Rev. Steve Adams, and assisted by Rev. John Harrill. The burial will be at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens in Charlotte. He is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Mary Ann Mapes Barnhardt of the home; son, Brian Dale Barnhardt and wife Mary; daughter, Sharlene Jeanette Smith; daughter-in-law, Julia Barnhardt; stepchildren, Cindy Sue Tesmer and husband Doug, Daniel John Canfield and wife Beth, and Melody Lynn Canfield; grandchildren, Briana, Jennifer, and Kristen Barnhardt, Chris Baldwin and wife Jessie, Shana Baldwin, Steven Barnhardt and wife Amy, Jason Barnhardt and wife Brittany, Tiffany Matala and husband John, and Abby Tesmer; great grandchildren, Camden Baldwin, Dominic Tesmer, and Brooklynn Barnhardt; sister, Betty Lewis and husband Johnny. Gene served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hickory Grove Baptist Church c/o Missions Fund, 6050 Hickory Grove Rd.
