Eunice Allen

July 11, 1918 — March 23, 2016

Eunice Chloe Baucom Allen of Midland, North Carolina, died Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at Clear Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born on July 11, 1918, she was the daughter of Ellis Vernon Baucom and Ethel Simpson Baucom of New Salem, NC. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon D. Allen, as well as his and her siblings and their spouses.

Eunice is survived by her son, Don (Wanda) Allen of Midland; a daughter, Joan Allen (Don) Gale of Kannapolis; three grandchildren, Zachary Lee (Summer) Isenhour of Concord; David Allen Gale of New York City; and Emily Katherine Gale of Kannapolis.

Visitation for Eunice Allen will be from 1:30 pm until 3:00 pm, Friday, March 25, 2016, at First Baptist Church of Midland. A celebration of her life will follow at 3:00 pm in the church sanctuary and will be officiated by Rev. Tom Gibbs with burial in the church cemetery.

Eunice worked in the washcloth cutting department of Cannon Mills in Kannapolis for 35 years. Her passions included gardening, canning, freezing, and sharing vegetables and fruits with friends and neighbors. Upon retirement, she traveled with Gaddy’s Tours to all but two states. She took art classes at the Senior Center in Monroe and enjoyed basket weaving and other crafts.

Eunice was a member of First Baptist Church, Midland, since 1944 where she served as clerk for 17 years, treasurer for 14 years, and custodian for 20 years. An active member of the church choir for almost 50 years, Eunice shared many wonderful times volunteering in her church and in the local community.

The family expresses gratitude to those who provided care and companionship for Eunice during her latter years, especially to Pat Helms, Angela Greene, Beatrice Blackwelder, Doris Mullis. She appreciated the phone calls, visits, cards, and gifts from her neighbors, friends, and relatives.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church Midland’s Building Fund, 4720 Garmon Mill Road, Midland, NC 28107.
