Evan L. Brown Iii

Evan Leroy Brown III, “Charlie Brown”, 71, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2020 of natural causes. Born July 14, 1949 in Charlotte, Charlie was the son of Evan L. Brown Jr. and Elsie Camilla Brown. A Charlottean for seventy years, Charlie moved to Midland in 2019.

Charlie proudly served his country in the United States Navy and later worked for his uncle in the tile business. His true calling however was the trucking industry — specifically running KATS Transportation Services, an adventure he and his wife Holly treasured and enjoyed.

Charlie loved shagging and beach music and in particular, Bobby Smith and the Poor Souls. Classic cars, hanging out with his “bestest” buddies and making new friends were other activities that Charlie enjoyed. He never met a stranger, was always quick with a joke, and loved his pups, Corky, Lizzy, Jake and his most recent family member, Champ, like children.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents Evan and Elsie Brown. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Holly of Midland, his sister, Mary Brown of Albemarle, his brothers Stephen of Iron Station and Terry Brown (Judy) of Concord NC, his niece Jennifer Simpler (William) of Oakboro and niece Johnolyn Sharpe of Kansas City, Missouri.

A visitation will be held at Hartsell Funeral Home in Midland on Friday, August 7, 2020 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM and a service held there on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at 11:00 AM. The service will be streamed live for friends and family that are unable to physically attend.
