Evelyn Carriker

Mary "Evelyn" Carriker, 85, of S. Central Avenue, Locust, passed away March 2, 2010, at her home.

Mrs. Carriker was born May 28, 1924, in Stanly County. She was preceded in death by mother Essie Hahn Barbee; father Ira Barbee; and brother Stancil Barbee.

Visitation will be Thursday, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Hartsell Funeral Home, Midland. Funeral service will be Friday, 4:00 p.m., First Baptist of Locust, with a 30 minute state, officiated by Dr. Kinney Wallace and Rev. Sid Martin. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. All other times the family will be at her home.

Evelyn and her husband of 68 years, Marcus, were members of First Baptist Church, Locust. Together they were owners of Carriker's Photographic Studio in Locust for 50 years. She enjoyed oil painting, spending time with her family, and sharing stories of the photographs she took of her brides and the children.

Survivors include husband, Marcus Clausell Carriker; daughters Gail Turner and husband, Ken, of Locust, and Freida Hinson and husband, Ronnie, of Locust; grandchildren Starla Turner Williams of New Salem, Kendra Turner Shaver of Charlotte, Shanna Turner-Meehan of Locust, Tiffany Hinson Barbee of Albemarle, Dane Hinson of Albemarle; three great-grandsons; sister, Ruth Almond of Dillon, SC.
