Everette Gabriel "Doc" Denny On March 30, 2011, Everette Gabriel "Doc" Denny, 86, completed his life here on earth and began his eternal life. He was born on September 13, 1924 and was a lifetime resident of Cabarrus County. After graduating from Winecoff High School he served in the US Navy during WWII aboard the destroyer U.S.S. O'Brien. He was a retired plumber by trade and worked for Hefner Plumbing Company in Charlotte, NC before forming his own business, Denny Plumbing Company in Charlotte, NC. He loved dancing, all kinds of music and antiques, especially anything with a motor. He enjoyed traveling in his motor home, playing cards, playing practical jokes, laughing and making others laugh. He was married forty-seven years to his devoted wife Betty Jean Alexander Denny who died in 1997. His parents Everette Gabriel and Lenora Wagoner Denny, four sisters, Eula Simmons and husband Henry Simmons, Thelma Eudy and husband Pat Eudy, Ozell Edsel and husband Bill Edsel, and Frances Haney and husband Vaid Haney, one nephew, Gary Eudy and one niece, Sharon Eudy Dixon are all deceased. He is survived by three daughters, Freddie Anne Davis and husband Penn Martin of Greensboro, NC, Betty Jo Denny of Greensboro, NC and companion Neil Moore of Pineville, NC, and Beverley Dianne Hooks and husband William Hooks of Concord, NC. He is also survived by his loving companion of nine years Mary Godwin of Charlotte, NC. He loved his five grandchildren, Alex Hammett and wife Jessica Meadows Hammett of Clayton,NC, William Hammett and wife Katie Hammett of Gastonia, NC, Alison Hammett of Concord, NC, Katie Hooks of New Orleans, LA, and Ethan Gore of Bangkok, Thailand. His great granddaughter Madison Hammett of Gastonia, NC always brought a twinkle to his eyes. He is survived by one nephew Donald Haney (Carolyn) and five nieces, Betty Grant (Truett), Barbara Yow (Glenn), Jean Webb, Phyllis Baucom (Bob) and Linda Flanagan (Dwight.), many great nieces and nephews and one great great niece. We will celebrate his life on Monday, April 4th 2011 at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church in Concord, NC at 2:00 pm. A visitation earlier Monday morning will be held at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord, NC from 10:30 to Noon.
