Florence Thompson Jenkins

Florence Thompson Jenkins, 94, of Harrisburg, went to be in her Heavenly Home with Jesus, on Friday, December 1, 2023, at Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville.

Florence was born February 20, 1929, in Tarrant, AL, to the late William Hade Swindal and the late Inez Tanner Swindal.  She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Doyce Reginald Thompson; second husband, John Ambrose Jenkins; brother, William Nelson Swindal; and sister, Laura Pauline Swindal Weaver.

Survivors include daughter, Beth Thompson-Peace of Concord; son, James Thompson of FL; son, Michael (Joyce) Thompson of SC; sister, Elizabeth Irene Swindal Guthrie of FL; five granddaughters, Madison Peace, Reagan Peace, Meaghan (Stephen) Thompson-Slappey, Jordan Thompson and Sarah Thompson; and several nieces and nephews.

Florence was so admired for her intelligence, her vibrant, fiery spirit, and her quick wit. She was proud of her family and a rock they could always depend on. She stood ever-ready to lovingly support the people she cared about, with her hands as much as her heart and words. It was important to her to stay educated about the world and engaged with her community. She never shied away from hard work and was a successful personnel manager at IBM for over 25 years. She loved spending time with her family, music of all kinds, and Alabama football. She will be greatly missed for her wisdom and unique perspective, and celebrated for a life well-lived. Roll Tide!

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Thursday, December 7, 2023, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Harrisburg.  The funeral service in celebration of Florence's life will be held at 3:30 pm, Sunday, December 10, 2023, at Shepherd Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel in Hendersonville, officiated by Pastor David Stanford.  Florence will lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your local Hospice.
