Florence Wierzbicki

Florence, 93, died of Covid at the Carolina Medical Center in Concord.  She was born on February 22, 1927 in Hazleton, PA.  Her parents were Michael DeLorenzo and Nellie Scalleat DeLorenzo.  Florence lived with her Aunt Mary Scianni in Corning, NY and Uncle Sam.  She attended school in Corning and then worked at the Corning Glass Center.  While on vacation in Buffalo NY, Florence met her future husband John J. Wierzbicki.  They were married for 36 years until his sudden death in 1994.  Several years later, she met a widower, Edward Dale Townsend, who also needed a new life partner.  They enjoyed 13 years together until his death in 2010.  In addition to her parents and husbands, Florence was predeceased by two sisters, Sylvia Serdula and Antoinette Divigili, and three brothers, James DeLorenzo, Michael DeLorenzo and Patrick DeLorenzo.

Florence was loved by her three daughters, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.  The surviving children are Mary Ellen Collins (Jim) of Florida, Joanne McMahon (Mike) of Maryland and Lisa Strickland (Kenny) of North Carolina.  The six grandchildren are Kevin, Erin, Patrick, Christina, Cory and Colleen.  She was fortunate enough to have six great-grandchildren, Damon, Ronan, Max, Matthias, Chance and Emmett whom she loved dearly.  Additionally, Florence had many nieces and nephews who enjoyed her company and conversations.

A celebration of her life will take place at a later date in North Carolina.  She was remembered in a beautiful mass by Father Nick Pagano.  Those who want to remember her in a special way may donate to the Humane Society of Concord and Greater Cabarrus County, PO Box 5347, Concord, NC  28027.
