Floyd C. Hartsell, 91, peacefully passed away at his home on April 2, 2025. He was born on November 10, 1933, in Concord, the son of Grover and Edna Hartsell. Floyd is now reunited with his siblings Bill Buff, Pauline Buff Barbee, Louise Hartsell, Grover Hartsell, and Edward Hartsell, as well as his son-in-law, Chuck Sigler, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Mary Helen McCachren Hartsell, who was the love of his life. Floyd and Mary Helen met at Harrisburg High School, began dating in their junior year, and married on January 1, 1955, at Harrisburg Presbyterian Church.
Floyd’s family includes two daughters: Marie (Chuck) Sigler and Cathy (Jeff) Eudy; five grandchildren: Brandon (Dana) Eudy, Amanda (Seth) Eudy Beckley, Jacob (Teka) Sigler, Stephen (Maddison) Sigler, and Samuel Sigler; and seven great-grandchildren: Nathan and Clara Eudy, Addison and Charlotte Sigler, James and Quinn Beckley, and Boone Sigler.
Floyd was deeply committed to his church, family, and country. He was a member of Harrisburg Presbyterian Church for over 70 years where he was a deacon, elder, church treasurer, trustee, and Sunday School teacher. He was also a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served with the 11th Airborne Division. Floyd was a charter member of the Harrisburg Lions Club, where he worked tirelessly on service projects to aid the blind. The most popular projects were the annual Cabarrus County Fair booth and the weekly hot dog sale at the Lion’s Den where he was a regular fixture.
Always ready to lend a hand, Floyd had a reputation for helping those in need. He never passed by a stranded motorist without helping and generously donated over ten gallons of blood to the American Red Cross. As a Gideon, he visited inmates at Mt. Pleasant Prison. He also volunteered with the Cabarrus Literacy Program.
Even in his later years, Floyd remained active. At the age of ninety, he continued to exercise four days a week at the Harrisburg YMCA, where he cherished the fellowship of friends of all ages. He also enjoyed daily walks with his loyal rescue dog, Lady Bird.
Floyd considered himself a truly fortunate man: he had a loving wife, a devoted family, a fulfilling career, and good health for most of his life. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, faith, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
The family will welcome friends Sunday, April 13 with visitation 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm at Harrisburg Presbyterian Church, 4815 Highway 49 S, Harrisburg, NC. Floyd’s memorial service will follow in the church sanctuary at 3:30 pm, officiated by Rev. Meg Skidmore.
Memorials may be made to the Harrisburg Presbyterian Church Columbarium Fund, PO Box 310, Harrisburg, NC 28075, or in Floyd's memory to the Harrisburg YMCA "Together We Build" Capital Campaign, Harrisburg YMCA, 4100 Main Street, Suite 200, Harrisburg, NC 28075.
