Frances (Fran) Carr Mabry, 96, of Albemarle, North Carolina died October 10, 2015 at Stanly Regional Hospital.
She was preceded in death by husbands Sam Hylton Hearn and Leonard William Mabry, and step-daughter Julie Mabry. Fran was born in Maysville, Georgia on October 17, 1918 to the late James Robert Carr and Allene Henry Carr.
Before Fran retired, she taught at Harris Kindergarten and East Albemarle Elementary School. She was a member of The First Presbyterian Church in Albemarle since 1963. Throughout the years, she frequently volunteered at the church with flower arranging, meal preparation, decorating the sanctuary including the Chrismon Tree, and served as an Elder. She was an avid gardener and earned the distinction of Master Gardener. Fran earned degrees in business and early childhood education. Her interests included collecting antiques, playing bridge, book club, and the beach. She greatly enjoyed her family, friends, and pets.
She is survived by her two sons, Samuel C. Hearn and Thomas E. Hearn (Donna), stepsons Mark Mabry (Chris) and Eric Mabry, grandchildren Sarah Hearn, Patrick Hearn, Henry Hearn, Kate Gibson (Trey), Meg Nance (Trevor), Jennifer Mabry, Whit Mabry, Hayden Mabry, and two great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church at 126 West North Street in Albemarle with the Reverend Elizabeth Ayscue officiating. Visitation with the family at the church will immediately follow the service. Burial will be in Maysville, Georgia.
