Frank Canler "Topper" Bryson, 92, of Concord passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Morningside Assisted Living in Concord.
Mr. Bryson was born October 1, 1920 in Jackson County, NC to the late Charles Vance Bryson and the late Willie Mae Bryson. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Avis Virginia Bryson, two brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Bryson was a veteran of the US Army having served in the Philippines during WWII. He received his honor of The Purple Heart last year with the assistance of The Midland American Legion, after his original records were destroyed by fire. He retired as a sergeant with the NC DMV with 28 years of service. Mr. Bryson was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church in Rural Hall, NC, where he served in many capacities such as treasurer, putting flags on graves to honor veterans for the holidays, and anything the church asked of him.
The family will receive friends at Bethel United Methodist Church in Midland on Sunday, September 15, 2013 from 3 until 4 pm. Funeral services will follow at 4 pm, officiated by Rev. Mark Clontz and Dr. Carl Fisher.
He is survived by his; son, Stephen Bryson (Bobbie) of Midland, NC; sisters, Louise Franklin Davis of Waynesville, NC, Patsy Bryson Champ (Ron) of Rantoul, IL; grandson, Scott A. Bryson (Elizabeth) of Haymarket, VA; granddaughter, Karla Bryson Hurst (Bobby) of Hendersonville, TN; great-grandchildren, Zachary and Savannah Hurst, and Lane, Ashley and Luke Bryson.
