Frank Howell Hatley, Sr., 88 years of age, of Concord, passed away peacefully at home during his Sunday nap on August 28, 2016.
Frank was born April 18, 1928 in Cabarrus County to the late John Hampton Caldwell Hatley and Minnie Lee Riddle Hatley. He was also preceded in death by wife, Lois Ramelle Hatley; brother, Arnold Hatley; sister, Doris Cain.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Friday, September 2, 2016 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. The funeral service will be Saturday at 11:00 am in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel of Concord officiated by Rev. Steven Cline. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.
Survivors include two sons, Glenn Hatley & wife Robin of Kannapolis and Hal Hatley & wife Vivian of Sarasota, FL; daughter, Sonya Williams of Concord; two sisters, Eunice Medlin & husband Cecil of Concord and Nancy Whitt of Lakeland, FL; brother, J.C. Hatley & wife Sadie of China Grove; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Frank was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy, stationed in the South Pacific on board the U.S.S. Jason in South Guam. Frank was affectionately known as "Unc" to his customers at Troutman's BBQ, where he worked for over 30 years. He was an avid outdoorsman, loved to deer hunt, fish and just enjoyed being out in nature. Above all, Frank was a loving father, husband and grandfather to his family.
