Frank Robert Overmars, 81, of Indian Trail, NC passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, February 3, 2022 at Monroe Rehabilitation Center in Monroe, NC.
Frank was Born March 30, 1940 in Manhattan, NY to the late John Overmars and the late Mary Zolnowski Overmars. He was preceded in death by his wife Joanne Overmars; daughter, Ruth Overmars; and siblings, Eddie Gandero, Althea Branca, John Overmars and Mary Fregosi Annunziata.
Frank was a taxi cab owner in New York City and up state New York before moving to Florida; that is where he became a security guard and then retired. Him and his family eventually moved to North Carolina. Frank was health conscience and exercised every day, until about a year ago. He always watched what he ate and would say, "no butter, no sugar and no meat," except when it came to his cookies and cake. He enjoyed his cake so much one birthday he received three slices of cake because he insisted he didn't have a slice yet. Frank was a quiet, kind and caring man. He would listen to everyone and anyone, and never judged them. He was a man of little words and didn't show his feelings, but when it was his wife, parents, siblings and their spouses, children, grandchildren, nieces or nephews he loved and cared for them all whether near or far. Frank was the first of five generations famous for his egg sandwiches by his family; he also enjoyed cooking gravy on Sundays. One of his great-grandsons would randomly stop by for one of his famous egg sandwiches while they sat and talked about boxing and life. He enjoyed watching football with his grandson, and if a crazy play or something happened when his grandson would step out he would find him and tell him all about it. He enjoyed talking with another grandson about politics, repairing cars and home repairs. Whether he taught you how to drive, go to Blue Mountain picnicking from sun up to sun down, playing softball and swimming, or driving out to New Jersey to the pool and park, his life was always about being with family. He was loved and will be missed by many, but never forgotten.
The family will have a private celebration of life.
He is survived by his children, James (Kay Anne) Overmars, Lucille (Brian Sr.) Ehlers, Frank Overmars, Jr., and Joseph Overmars, Sr.; grandchildren, Jimmy (Elizabeth) Overmars, Brian Ehlers, Jr, Dawn (Daniel Sr.) Ehlers-Gottschall, Kristen Overmars, Joseph Overmars, Jr., John Overmars; great-grandchildren, Courtney Ehlers, Daniel Gottschall, Jr., Kaylee Ehlers, Derick Gottschall and Dailynn Gottschall; great great-grandchildren, Colson, Briella and Colby, Jr.
