Franklin Dwight Mitchell, 102 years of age, of Pioneer Mill Road, Concord, went to be with the Lord Saturday, October 15, 2011, in the Tucker Hospice House of Kannapolis. Mr. Mitchell was born July 31, 1909 in Alleghany County. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Annabel Carcaud Mitchell; his father, Stephen Munsey Mitchell; his mother, Nannie Mae Warden Mitchell; his stepmother, Lula Phipps Mitchell; his daughter, Phyllis Ann Mitchell; his grandson, Jonathan Baker; his brothers, John Mitchell and Louis Mitchell; his sister, Opal Heaps; and his son-in-law, Tommy Cox. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Rodgers Mitchell of the home; his son, James Stephen Mitchell and his wife, Sheila, of Charlotte; his daughters, Charlene Delpezzo and her husband, Raymond of Oak Island and Alice Cox of Salisbury; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and special nieces and nephews. Frank lived his life in Sparta, NC, Darlington, MD, and Concord, NC. He was a farmer all his life, having moved to Concord in 1950. Mr. Mitchell was honored as Farmer of the Year, a past board member of Security Bank & Trust of Concord, a past board member of FCX, a member of Union Lodge #618 A. F. & A. M. of Midland, a member of the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry 32 degrees in the Valley of Charlotte, and a Noble member of the Shriners International. He was also a member of Bethel United Methodist Church of Midland. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, Oct.19, at Bethel United Methodist Church of Midland with Masonic Rites presented by the Union Lodge #618 of Midland. Rev. Mark Clontz and Rev. Matt Lawing will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m., at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 197 Shiloh Church Road, in Sparta, NC.
