Franklin Thomas Shortt, Jr., 69 years of age, of Stanfield, passed away Monday, September 1, 2014 at Carolinas Specialty Hospital in Charlotte.
Frank was born March 2, 1945 in Maryland to the late Franklin Thomas Shortt, Sr. and Roxie Mae Harmon Rogers of Delmar, MD. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Ronald and Donald Shortt.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The funeral service will be at 10:00 am Friday in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel. The burial will follow at 12:00 pm at the Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury with military honors conducted by Fort Bragg.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Phyllis Ann Dorsey Shortt of the home; son, Franklin Thomas Shortt, III and wife Jackie of Delmar, MD; daughters, Laurie Jean Whitley and husband Chad of Locust, Wendy Ann Short and husband Warren of Monroe, Ella Michelle Becker and husband Troy of Boise, ID, and Kayla Marie Torres of Stanfield; sisters, Gail West of Berlin, MD, and Alyson Triglia of Salisbury, MD; 15 grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
Frank was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother. He was a cowboy at heart. He loved horseback riding, hunting, and fishing. Frank was a decorated war hero, serving his country honorably in Vietnam. He retired as Master Sergeant from the United States Army. He then went to work for the State of Washington Department of Agriculture.
