Fred Covington

Mr. Fred Newell "Chip" Covington, III, 50, of 521 Bent Oak Trail, Concord, passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2009, in the Hospice unit at the W.G. Bill Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury. He was born on December 15, 1959 in Cabarrus County to the late Fred Newell Covington, Jr. and Doris Shoe Covington. He graduated from Central Cabarrus High School in 1978. He was a veteran of the US Air Force. He was also an electronics specialist and a member of Hopewell Baptist Church and the American Legion. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, January 1, at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, at West Concord Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Covington and the Rev. Sammy Pierce. At other times, the family will be meeting at the home. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his sons, Chad Covington and Chase Covington, both of Mt. Pleasant. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of the Hospice unit at the W.G. Bill Hefner VA Medical Center for the special care given to them.
