Fred Whitley

Fred Patrick Whitley, 94, of New London, passed away Friday, March 22, 2013 at Bethany Woods. Mr. Whitley was born December 10, 1918 in Stanly County (New London) to the late Millard Monroe Whitley and Nealie Burris Whitley. He was also preceded in death by his wife in 1985, Rona Virginia Morton Whitley. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m., Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 25, at Matton’s Grove United Methodist Church, 24772 Matton’s Grove United Methodist Church Road, Misenheimer, NC 28109, officiated by Rev. Tony Bowman, Pastor Emily Kroeger, and Pastor Kathy Bryant. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. At other times, the family will meet at the home of his son, Jimmie Whitley. He was a member of Matton’s Grove United Methodist Church. Survivors include his son, Jimmie Alvin Whitley and wife, Ann, of New London; three grandchildren, Eric Whitley, Ginger Shaver, and Kelly Whitley; and four great-grandchildren, Preston Whitley, Chase Whitley, Anna Shaver, and Brennen Shaver. Memorials may be made to Matton’s Grove United Methodist Church. Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is serving the Whitley family.
