Freda Townsend

Freda Virginia Mullins Townsend, 86, of 8300 Nolley Lane, Sherrills Ford, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2009, at the Palliative CareCenter and Hospice of Catawba Valley in Newton. The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16, at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Danny Stevenson, Rev. Charles Efird, and Rev. Phil Long officiating. Burial will be at Harrisburg Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Mrs. Townsend was born November 11, 1923, in Charleston, WV, to the late Rev. Roy Mullins, and the late Ona Mae Hamon Mullins. She was a loving wife and mother. She was a member of First Assembly in Mooresville, and was employed by Cabarrus County Schools. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Ramona Sue Townsend, three sisters, and one brother. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Roy Townsend; son, Roy "Butch" Townsend and wife, Beth, of Sherrills Ford; daughters, Linda Ramseur and husband, Glenn, of Harrisburg, Norma Morris and husband, Larry, of Concord, Audrey Woodliff and husband, Claude, of Harrisburg, Judy Hill and husband, Will, of Salisbury, and Kathy Britt and husband, Tevis, of Evergreen; sister, Evelyn Hampton, of Ohio; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
