Garnette Robertson Burris, 89, of Concord, NC died after an extended illness late Saturday evening, December 9, 2017 at Morningside Assisted Living in Concord.
Mrs. Burris was born, Tuesday, March 27, 1928 in Mooresville, NC to the late John and Darina Robertson.
On September 18, 1948 in Mooresville, she married her loving husband of 53 years, the late Dr. Glenn C. Burris, Sr. who died September 21, 2001. Together as a team they pastored several churches including 10 years at First Foursquare Church of Concord. They also served as District Supervisors of the Foursquare Church for 18 years and directed Camp Courtney in Hendersonville, NC during this period of time.
Mrs. Burris raised three wonderful sons and served by her husband's side in his ministry. She loved people unconditionally, lived every moment with integrity, worshipped and praised continuously, gave generously and followed her Lord Jesus Christ, serving faithfully. Every Monday until recently she volunteered with other seniors to clean the facilities at Harvest Community Church. Her entire life centered around building God's kingdom and putting others before herself.
She leaves behind to treasure her memory, her devoted and loving sons, Dr. Glenn C. (Debbie) Burris, Jr. of Canton, GA., Rev. Jeffrey L. (Judy) Burris of China Grove, NC and Timothy M. (Kim) Burris of Concord, NC. Also surviving are her five loving grandchildren, Heidi (Dustin) Conley, Josh (Stephanie) Burris, Rev. Zach (Shannon) Burris, Meredith Burris, Rev. Trevor (Heather) Burris and eight great-grandchildren with one expected in March. She will be missed by her sister, Margaret (L.D.) Aldridge of Kannapolis, NC and many nieces and nephews whom she cherished. She is preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Sandra Elaine who died at childbirth.
Funeral services for Mrs. Burris will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Harvest Community Church, 4284 Orphanage Road Concord, NC 28027 with Dr. Glenn C. Burris, Jr. and Rev. Jeffrey L. Burris officiating. The family will receive guests that afternoon in the church from 1:00 to 2:45 p.m. At the families request there will be a private committal service at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis, NC.
The family would like to thank the angels at Hospice of Cabarrus County, the staff of Morningside Assisted Living of Concord along with her church family at Harvest Community Church for their love and care for their beloved mother.
